Fractals are amazing patterns found in science, math, and art. Students will learn about the repeating patterns of fractals in nature, such as leaves and snowflakes, as well as in technologies such as antennas and computer generated images. Our mini mathematicians will learn the magic of Fibonacci numbers and the unique number patterns of Pascal’s triangle. Through experiments with tangrams, interactive games using symmetry and patterns, and tessellation art, students will discover how fractals surround us every day. For an eye-opening experience, we will travel to the Carbon Canyon Nature Center for a nature walk where we will focus on discovering as many different types of patterns as possible. Students will also enjoy a picnic lunch and nature scavenger hunt!
